Craig is a multimedia artist, independent scholar, and filmmaker who draws inspiration from themes of identity, urban subcultures, and narrative art. Graduate of Belfast Art college, Northern Ireland, his digital paintings and experimental film work focuses on abstract moments in time, human experiences, and semi-fictional narratives that present an alternative vision of the world. His artwork has been exhibited in Belfast and Berlin. Did I mention he has a PhD in Motion Comics as well!?

What got you in to Crypto art?

I have been interested in cryptocurrency for about 4 years and thought the concept of Blockchain art was a brilliant one.

Do you think your art is fulfilling a purpose?

My art fulfills a purpose in me as an artist. I need to create, and I hope that others enjoy the work.

How did you start out as an artist?

I've always loved drawing and painting, and went to art college in 1993 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. At the time, I was a painter, photographer and printmaker. In my final year (1996), a strange new module called 'digital multimedia' appeared on the curriculum and I discovered Photoshop, Hypercard, 3DStudioR4 etc. Since then I've been a multimedia artist who loves traditional as well as digital forms of art.

Who or what inspires your work?

My abstract painting is inspired by the Irish landscape, but it is a loose association. My multimedia art is arguably more experimental and draws inspiration from subcultures, science fiction, and alternative narratives.

Which other artist(s) do you admire?

I admire Basquiat for his use of text and image, I love Rothko for the colors, and the humour of Gif artist Min Liu.

Final question, what’s next for you as an artist?

Thanks to KnownOrigin, I have the inspiration and means to create digital art for a new generation of curators who are free of traditional art markets. I'm currently working on digital abstract paintings, animated gifs, and some VR narrative artwork, which will be made available as a 360 animated movie or gif.
